Toddler yeast infections affect very young children and the fungus responsible for this is candida albicans or the infamous yeast. Toddlers also have yeast present in their bodies just like adults. There are several main parts that yeast love to invade in the bodies of toddlers and they include skin folds, diaper area, mouth and other places. Yeast is notorious in infecting young children and they are left wondering what the itchy episodes were about. Many parents know of an infection in their child when they notice severe itching and discomfort in the child. Sometimes, mothers think that a persistent rash in the diaper area is just normal until it refuses to go away.

There are several factors that will lead a child to have toddler yeast infection. The first one which is common to every person is the use of antibiotics. Whenever friendly bacteria are killed, yeast finds an opportunity to thrive. Toddlers may be under antibiotics for some reasons. As a mother or a caregiver, you need to consider all the children who are under such medications and know what to expect. Other reasons why the yeast comes to very young children is the fact that their mouth has not yet had the proper organism concentration and yeast develops easily causing oral thrush.

Toddler yeast in infection in the mouth is called thrush and you will find many children with such problems. The other thing that may cause the infection is very moist and warm surfaces in the child and this may be in the diaper area. Caregivers and mothers should ensure the diapers are changed regularly. They should also ensure that the skin of the baby is handled with care. There are many cures for the condition and you have to look for anti fungal creams for children. If you notice any unusual changes on the skin of the baby, you need to notify your pediatrician so that he can perform tests to establish what the problem is.

Toddler yeast infection may not be life threatening but, it can be very uncomfortable for the child. You can also go for home remedies like tea tree oil and other safe medications to use. Some people add the medication into the bath water of the child. You need to administer the cure as directed by the doctor therefore, rest assured that the treatments are safe. Some people have argued that even when the baby is kept dry, there might be signs of infection by yeast and this goes to show that it is not hygiene alone that will prevent the yeast from infecting the child but it is inclusive of other factors like health and immunity of the child.

Some mothers worry too much even when the condition is toddler yeast infection. I do not mean to downplay the condition but in all cases of yeast overgrowth in toddlers, there is nothing serious to report. Therefore, you need to be vigilant and at the same time know that it is a phase the child is going through and it will definitely pass.
