Babies are important for their parents. Your babies are part of you. They came from you. And so, utmost safety for them should be one of your priorities. And one thing to ensure safety is by considering baby crib safety.
Baby crib safety is a serious matter since baby cribs are the dwelling place of your babies in their first few months. If you have been securing their safety ever since they are in your wombs by not drinking alcohol, neglecting smoking and taking medicines, then you should be as conscious about their safety now that they are in the world.
The first thing that should be considered in baby crib safety is finding the right crib for your baby. Maybe a lit of your relatives had offered you used baby bed that they use when they had your nieces or cousins. Well, this is a very endearing act of care. However, you should bear in mind that older baby bed might not be that safe for your baby. They might be already worn out and some of the particles in them may choke or suffocate your baby.
Baby bed safety ensures the protection of your baby. The size of the baby bed is one matter here. You should make sure that all legs are of the same height and width so as to prevent any malfunction. Another thing that contributes to baby crib safety is ensuring that the crib is strong enough to carry your baby.
A crib also takes into consideration the design of the crib. Baby crib designs should not have any sharp ends because this could harm your baby. The height and width also matters. Also, the bay crib accessories.
Some of the accessories that should be considered in safety are bumper pads and mattresses. This would ensure more that the baby would be safe and sound. Also the location of the matters. Never put the it near an open window because there may be some elements outside that could harm the baby.
Always consider the safety of your precious one. Don’t just buy a cheap bed. Take into consideration bay crib safety because this would take the burden of worrying from you. So what are you waiting for? Better check if you have met the standards of a childs bed safety.

A child car seat is used for your child’s safety and comfort. Sure you know how to fit the child seat to the car and it looks safe, but do you know how to check your child is safe and what you can do to increase your child’s safety? Below I have listed a few hints and tips:
First of all, before even buying travel child seats, you should make sure it is suitable for your child’s height and weight.
Don’t just install the seat with your own knowledge, read the manufacturer’s manual before fitting the child car seat and always follow the steps in the manual. The manual should give you clear instructions on how to fit the child car seat.
Allow plenty of time when fitting the child seat to ensure it is fitted correctly. This is something that should never be done in a hurry.
Always consider the safest position in the car to fit the travel child seats to. The safest position for your child in the event of an accident is the center of the back seat as long as your car seat is approved to be used with the type of seat belt fitted in the back center seat in your car. The second safest position is the rear left hand position (behind the front passenger seat) as it is furthest away from other cars on the road. The third safest position is the rear right hand position (behind the driver’s seat). Then the fourth safest being the front passenger seat.
It is the law that you do not place rear facing infant car seats in the front seat of the car if there is an active airbag. It is recommended not to put rear facing infant car seats in the front seat even if the airbag is de-activated as there is still a potential risk that it could go off.
Make sure the travel child seats is stable and does not move more than an inch forward or side to side.
Make sure the harness of the car seat holds your child securely. You should only be able to fit one or two fingers between your child’s body and the harness. If there is still space when you do this the harness is too loose.
If you think the child seat isn’t secure enough, re-tighten the seat belt and retest the tightness of the child seat. If you cannot get the seat secure enough, take it to your local garage for inspection.

Child Safety in the Home
Filed Under Home And Family | Leave a Comment
In the 15-year period from 1982 to 1996, the leading cause of death among young children was accidents, poisoning and violence (external causes) — these accounted for about 46% of all deaths among Australian children.
Although the death rate from external causes declined, it remained the leading cause of child death during this period. About a third of all child deaths from external causes were due to motor vehicle accidents (on average around 64 deaths per year) and drowning (on average 68 deaths per year).
A number of these deaths were also due to a silent killer found in many thousands of homes — dangling cords.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission in the US has been working with manufacturers of window blinds and shades to reduce strangulation deaths which occur when young children get caught in the loops of window covering control cords.
Since 1981, over 170 children have died in the US as a result of being entangled in window cords. This is about one death per month. In about half of these cases, children between eight months and four years old were found hanging in the loop of the cords. In other cases, children were found with control cords wrapped around their necks.
The younger children who died, usually between 8 and 23 months old, were in cots that were placed near the window cords. The older children, usually between 2-1/2 and 4 years old, strangled in cords when they climbed on furniture to look out windows.
Blind manufacturers have introduced wand controls on vertical blinds to eliminate this unnecessary risk to children.
MORE SAFETY TIPS
If it’s not possible to replace existing curtains or blinds with wand-controlled verticals, there are temporary steps that can be taken to prevent accidental deaths from strangulation:
* Keep all cords out of reach of children
* Move cots and furniture away from cords
* Remove objects from below windows to prevent children from climbing
* Do not tie cords together
The safest, long-term solution is to use wand controls. And of course, you must always be watching your children.

A baby crib is an important purchase and an investment in the safety of the child as well as in a piece of furniture that may well be an heirloom one day. From the style of a crib, to the mattress, to the crib sets, every aspect of the purchase is an important one.
A baby crib mattress is the second most important purchase and needs to be firm and supportive with little yield to it. While most baby mattresses are a standard size, a person should always check the mattress against the crib they will be using as occasionally there will be an issue with fit. The crib mattress needs to fit tightly inside the crib to keep the baby from falling down through the sides. Though foam or coils in the mattress are a personal preference, it is not really important aside from price as foam mattresses are usually less expensive. A good crib mattress should cost between $75-$100. The important thing is that the mattress be quite firm. A firmer mattress is a safer mattress as babies can sink into a softer one and it becomes a smothering hazard. Another thing to consider when purchasing a crib mattress is the mattress cover. It should be a multi-layer cover for the best durability. Anti-microbial surfaces help to eliminate germs from spit ups, bottle spills and leaking diapers. A JPMA seal on the crib mattress means that the manufacturer is a member of the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association and the quality of the crib mattress meets their professional standards.
Crib styles are varied but some of the more popular modern styles are the round baby crib, the sleigh crib and of course, the convertible crib. A modern crib is versatile, has clean lines and incorporates form and function into a safe sleeping environment for a little one. The round one is growing in popularity but is not so common that there are as many bedding set options as there will be for a standard crib shape. The elegant sleigh style crib is often convertible to a toddler bed and then to a full sized bed. These cribs were inspired by the beds that were carved for French royalty and have been popular throughout the years.
No matter what style of crib a person chooses to buy for their nursery or what mattress they opt to put in it, safety should always be the number one priority. Most modern baby cribs meet and exceed safety standards, so a parent should enjoy shopping for the crib that best suits their sense of style and then enjoy matching the baby crib set to the beautiful room they create to cradle the new little one they will be bringing into it.

Car Safety Seat Tips
Filed Under Home And Family | Leave a Comment
Although some car safety seats are considered safer than others it’s a good point to note that all car safety seats must pass the same federal crash tests before being approved for sale in the U.S.
There are many car safety seats on the market with manufacturers adding little extra features in order to try and make their car safety seats better than their competitors but the one main factor that consumers need to be aware of is that if a car safety seat is not fitted correctly and in accordance with manufacturers instructions the car seat’s safety is impaired.
When looking for a car safety seat do not make your decision based on price and price alone. Higher priced car safety seats may have added features but such features won’t necessarily make the car safety seat safer or easier to use.
If a car safety seat doesn’t fit your car well don’t use it and never resort to car safety seat accessories to try and make a safety seat fit your car. Manufacturers provide everything you need to correctly fit the car safety seat you are buying, if you need accessories the likelihood is that you have either fitted the seat incorrectly or that the car seat is not suitable for your car.
Ten Car Safety Seat Tips:
1. All car safety seats have weight limits which must be adhered to. Failure to follow weight / size limits can put your baby / child at risk.
2. Always use a rear facing car safety seat for infants under 1 year of age.
3. Never place a rear-facing car safety seat in the front seat of a car that has a passenger air bag.
4. With each new car safety seat read the manufacturers instructions carefully to ensure that the safety seat is correctly fitted at all times.
5. Always make sure your infants car safety seat is fitted securely.
6. Always double check that your baby is strapped into their car safety seat correctly.
7. Never place blankets under your baby before fastening the car safety seat straps. Blankets or similar items could become dislodged with the end result being that your baby is no longer strapped in tightly.
8. Avoid second hand car safety seats unless you know the person you are buying it from, are sure it hasn’t been dropped or anything else has happened which might have weakened the seat and it still comes with manufacturer’s instructions.
9. Avoid fitting car safety seats next to side air bags. Always follow the car safety seat fitting instructions as provided by your car’s manufacturer.
10. If using the same car safety seat for your second or subsequent child check the manufacturers guidelines. Some manufacturers don’t recommend that you use their car safety seats beyond 5-6 years from the date of manufacture.
One final warning, never leave your child unattended in their car safety seat either in or out of the car. Leaving an infant in a car safety seat that is not secured can prove dangerous and leaving your infant unattended in a car can result in accidents such death from heat stroke, infants being jammed in electric windows and toddlers letting handbrakes off.

Children have little sense of what is safe and unsafe, especially when it comes to understanding the dangers of medicine. It’s time to check your medicine cabinet for unused, unneeded, or expired prescriptions. Disposing of these items safely will ensure they keep out of the hand of young people. Following are household safety tips for keeping medicine out of reach of children:
Remove the products from their original containers. Mix the medicine with used coffee grounds, cat litter, or other undesirable items to divert accidental ingestion by children or pets, or double-bag the medicine. Seal the mixture in nondescript containers, such as empty jars or sealable bags. Throw all containers in the trash. Return unused drugs to the pharmacy take-back locations for safe disposal. Store used medicine in a locked cabinet, out of sight and out of reach of children. Use child-resistance caps on all medicine containers. Keep medicine in its original container so they are not mistaken for something else. Take medicine with you if you’re called away before administering it, such as when you’re on the phone or if someone is at your front door. Don’t leave the container behind where your child could get a hold of it. Replace lids and return medicine to its proper storage place as soon as you’re done with it. Resist the urge to call medicine “candy” so your child will not intentionally seek it out. Keep purses, diaper bags, guests’ luggage, etc. out of your child’s reach if they contain medicine. Unpack medicine first from grocery bags before your child has a chance to investigate the contents of the bags.
Try crawling on your hands and knees to view things as your child does. This way, you can check to make sure medicine is out of reach according to your child’s perspective.

A new baby is completely dependent on his or hers parents for care, and this includes keeping clean. Baby baths can be an enjoyable experience for both baby and parents if care and safety is taken into account. Before you even begin to bath your baby, be sure to have all items such a washcloth, towel, soap, shampoo, clean diaper and clothes are readily available. You do not want to leave the baby unattended to go grab an item you forgot to place out.
Babies can be bathed in a number of places. You can purchase a baby tub for the sink, the bathtub or you can bathe your child in the kitchen sink the old fashioned way. If you choose to bathe baby in the sink, be sure to place a towel or a rubber mat in the sink so that the child does not slip. A normal adult tub or an unlined sink is too slippery to bath your child safely, so this should be avoided.
The water temperature of the baby bath should be about 90 degrees. Never place your baby under running water, and always test the water with your wrist or elbow before placing your baby in the tub. The water should only be about 2 to 3 inches high, too much water is unsafe and the tub should never be full enough to cover the babies head.
To safely bathe your baby, always keep one hand on the baby and gently wash with the other. Holding your baby by the armpit is a great way to maintain control, and prevents baby from slipping out of your hand. Paying close attention to your baby is the most important part of keeping your baby safe. Always focus your attention on the baby, and never try to talk on the phone or become distracted during bath time. If something needs attention, remove the baby from the tub first and take him or her with you. Never leave your baby unattended!
If your child is a newborn that still has their umbilical stump or has just been circumcised, do not bathe your baby in a tub. Give the baby a sponge bath with warm water and a very mild soap. The umbilical cord should never be immersed in water.
Bath time is a bonding experience between baby and parents, and should be done with consideration and ease. Your baby relies on you 100% for all of his care, so pay special attention to your baby when bathing him or her to ensure a pleasant experience for both parent and child. Baby Bedding Safety
Filed Under Home And Family | Leave a Comment
For the majority of women, giving birth to a newborn baby is one of the most miraculous experiences she will have. Not only does it satisfy her biological function as an adult female, but also fulfills a void in her maternal heart and soul. As grueling as having a bun in the oven for approximately nine difficult months is, or how many difficult unspeakable hours of labor you tolerate before finally delivering your newborn is, someone may imagine that the most difficult part has ended. But in truth,it is just getting off the ground. You are now not just a Mom or a Dad, but a Parent. Parents carry many titles like: nurses, cooks, book keepers, and yes, servants. As a parent it’s now your duty to educate yourself on how to do many additional tasks than any one profession should ever or could ever involve.
According to experts claims, the first rule to abide by, in any given situation, should pertain to the safety and security of your baby. I am certain you’re extremely careful about nearly everything you come across that may be a conceivable problem. But have you ever thought about their bedding?
Trust me, your baby’s bedding should be your first concern before the baby arrives. The bedding can’t be too firm nor too soft. It’s been stated that Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) possibly may have be caused by the mattress being too soft at times. It is possible that when the mattress is excessively soft the child’s mouth and nose can become covered forcing them to inhale the air they just exhaled. Which can be dangerous because it is not the oxygen that they need, but carbon dioxide. An excessive amount of carbon dioxide can cause drowsiness, coma, and sometimes even death.
There are a variety of baby bed styles to choose from. Before you purchase bedding for the infants bed, you must choose and buy the bed first so that your bedding will have a suitable fit. The top three most popular kinds of beds are bassinets, cribs, and cradles.
Bassinets are perfect for a newborn and are round or oblong. They’re small and your newborn will outgrow it very soon. Bassinets are commonly ruffled and beautiful. The bedding should fit perfect allowing for plenty of space for your child to rollover throughout their nap.
Cradles are also typically small and are available in an assortment of sizes and shapes. They rest low to the floor on rockers and come in really convenient when your child is irritable and they yearn to be rocked to sleep. A cradles bedding needs to conform to the shape of the cradle just properly. Very little space should be available for the child to move since it’s main use is to rock the baby to sleep.
Cribs are by far the most economical of the three options if for no other reason than that your baby will most always be able to use it for two entire years, possibly even longer. A crib is typically rectangle and its mattress can easily be found in the proper size and shape. Its bedding ought consist of a bed sheet, a light blanket, and one or two small pillows. Don’t have too many pillows or toys in the crib. They can make a child to slip and fall when attempting to lift themselves up the first few times.
All three types of baby beds are absolutely acceptable options and is completely up to the parents tastes. Irregardless which style of bed you settle on, always make certain it is marked with the proper warnings and precautions. Most will agree the crib is the most preferable since it is more than versatile enough, bigger, hardier, and will endure till your baby is prepared for their toddler or twin bed.
The proper bedding supplies for any of these styles of baby beds should be constructed of natural cotton. It is an extremely absorbent material and is cool on the baby skin. Have some fun when choosing the beddings design. Bright primary colors, basic shapes and patterns all help to stimulate your baby’s recognition of these basic tools. Your baby’s bedding is a most significant safety and security factor because having a happy and healthy baby is most important of all else.
