Cutting a child’s hair can be a challenge to say the very least! That is why most parents leave the job to someone else by going to a hair salon geared especially to children. Why deal with whiny, wiggly children when there is someone else who will do it for you? Hair salons for kids are thriving all over the United States and they are set up with hair salon furniture and gadgets that appeal to the younger set.

The professional people who work children are trained not only in hair cutting techniques but in ways to deal with the unique personalities of kids. They have to be able to entice a very young child into the chair and then keep the child “happy” and somewhat still during the haircut. They also need to know all the ins and outs of cutting pre-teenagers hair so that they leave feeling “un-dorky”! And, they want all the children who visit their shop to feel comfortable, before, during and after their haircut.

“Cool” furniture is essential in any beauty shop dealing with children. It needs to be colorful, durable and most of all eye-appealing. The waiting area needs to have furniture that is appropriate for various age levels and sometimes is divided into sections that are set up for toddlers and their older siblings. Many shops have special toy boxes that have toys, games, crayons and books for children of all ages. The goal is to keep them occupied and happy until they’re called in for their haircut.

Many children, especially those who are very young, are afraid of getting up into the hair cutting chair. Many shops have special chairs resembling animals, vehicles and animated characters that are recognized and loved by children. This makes getting into the chair much more fun and is often the catalyst that is needed for frightened kids. After the haircut, it is always best to have a little treat for them at the reception desk as they leave. Hair salon furniture for kids works here as well because it can be colorful and adjusted for them so that they can reach those cherished “goodies”!

In general, I am a fan of buying stuff that is built to last. I have some beautiful living room furniture that I spent years acquiring. I have an Italian leather sofa and a coffee table made out of solid oak that catches the eye of almost every single person who comes into the room. With kids furniture, however, I take a different attitude altogether. Kids grow up so fast that there is no point in paying an arm and a leg for something that they will not be able to use in another 9 months. That is why I have always been a fan of discount kids furniture.

One of the great things about buying discount kids bedroom furniture is that you do not have to sacrifice appearance to get it. Most kids like things that are bright, colorful, and whimsical. You can find inexpensive discount kids furniture made out of plastic or pressed board in lots of bright colors as easily as you can find solid wood stuff that costs a lot more. The kids will never know the difference, but you will when you get the bill! Discount kid furniture often only costs a fraction of what the more expensive stuff costs.

Of course, if you are willing to keep an eye out all the time, you can find some very high quality discount kids furniture. There are furniture stores in my town that regularly have closeout sales where they sell cheap childrens furniture. Basically, there are a few times a year that are ideal for finding discount kids furniture. The best time is after the holidays are over. Not only has the Christmas buying season passed, but the year has ended as well. This means that the discount kids furniture stores will be getting rid of all of their old inventory to get new stuff in. If you go shopping for discount kids furniture in January and February, it will be easier to get a deal than at any other time during the whole entire year.

One of the great things about buying discount kids furniture is that it makes you feel more at ease about letting your kids pick how to put their rooms together. The discount furniture kids pick does not have to fit your tastes. It costs you very little, so it does not have to be a long term investment in bedroom set furniture.

Thinking of creating the perfect bedroom for your kids? You may be doing them a disservice if you don’t really have a grasp of what kids want and what they need (which they may not realize they want) before you go shopping.

Lower Beds

While as an adult we can enjoy high-sitting, pillow top beds that are well off the ground, these are not often the best choice for children, especially those under 10. Little ones are prone to roll around a lot while they are sleeping and periodically fall out of bed. You want to make sure the kids bedroom furniture you choose will make the bed they will be falling out of low enough to the ground that they will not get hurt.

Watch the Edges

Another thing to look at in kids bedroom furniture is the edges. There are some beautiful pieces of furniture out there on the market, but a lot of it has pointed edges. In a child’s room, this is an accident waiting to happen. While you may tell them time and time again not to run in the house, it will happen, and it’s best if you have rounded edges on the furniture for the time when they run into it.

Getting Homework Done

From pre-school to high school, your kid is going to need a space to do homework, so you should figure this into your decision on kids bedroom furniture. Many of today’s kid’s room suites can have a desk as a part of the package, since this is a must-have for a child. One thing to keep in mind as you are selecting a desk is that there also needs to be adequate lighting for your child to work by. If the room is not well enough lit, or you are thinking of putting the desk in a corner, which may be a little darker, make sure the desk has space for a lamp that can be used to brighten things up.

Shelves

Kids have a lot of items that need shelving. Books, games, puzzles and more can be neatly stacked on shelves. While many parents like the idea of a toy box in a younger child’s room, toy boxes do not work for items such as board games and puzzles, unless you like the box falling open and searching for pieces that have made their way to the bottom. It’s best to have a neat place to put these things away.

Storage

As adults we understand the idea of spring-cleaning and limiting clutter. For kids, this is a foreign concept. Kids will always have stuff. Lots of stuff. So, when you are considering kids bedroom furniture, think storage. Whether it’s under-bed drawers, extra dressers, shelves or other options, the more storage you have, the better chance the room may periodically be clean.

Friend Space

Kids will have slumber parties and other sorts of gatherings at your house. While adults use the living room or kitchen for these get-togethers, kids like to show off their room. Make sure your kids bedroom furniture purchases are conducive to sleepovers and more than one child wanting to sit and play.

Buying kid’s furniture does not have to be a major ordeal, but it does take a bit of planning. It is not a more complicated process than finding furnishings for other rooms, despite what some may say. It’s a fact that kids usually get the smaller rooms so when looking for furniture, you will want to locate items that can serve multiple purposes. For example, a headboard with built in book shelves and lighting, or storage pieces that can also be used as steps to help the little ones reach up higher. And don’t forget the toy chest that has a padded top to be used as extra seating.

If you have two kids in one small room, when it comes to furniture bunk beds make perfect sense. They take up no more floor space than a regular bed, but provide two sleeping areas. Or you may even consider a trundle bed - a second bed that stores under the first. Keep safety in mind when looking at kids furniture. You will want to buy furniture that can stand up to the rough and tumble abuse most kids dish out to their furniture. Safety rails must be sturdy and tights and ladders should be of sufficient strength and attached firmly to the bed.

If you buy older, used kids furniture, have the paint tested for lead content. Always check with consumer protection agencies about the history and possible recalls of any furniture you are considering for your kids. Style is another consideration that should not be complicated. Basically, if your kids are boys, don’t buy them furniture that is white. That style is usually made with little girls in mind.

But do keep in mind that any style furniture that you buy for your kids should be able to grow with them to avoid changing out the furniture more often than you would like. For example, no boy is going to want to sleep in his bed with a fire truck design when he enters his teen years.

Home gadgets like TVs, DVD players, stereos, and games consoles are no longer the domain of the living room only and every kid wants to have the very latest in gadgets. Whether it’s an Xbox or even a 3DTV this means finding the most appropriate place to put it where the potentially expensive equipment and your child are both safe from damage and harm. Kids entertainment centers are designed specifically for the purpose and this usually means that they have the appropriate amount of space to store everything including the home entertainment system and the media that they play on it.

Ensuring Ease Of Use

Kinds furniture needs to be stable and safe and this also means that it should be easy to put up. The simpler the furniture is to erect the less likely that the job will be rushed or mistakes will be made. If you can find furniture that fits together safely and securely without the need to use any tools to do so then that’s even better. Of course, the other benefit of furniture that is easy to put together is that it will prove stressful for the parents that inevitably need to put it together.

Storage

The kids bedroom is one of those rooms that requires masses of storage and while there are many unique storage units on the market, one of the most beneficial is to have the storage where it is needed. In the case of holding DVDs, console games, and CDs then this means putting the media storage next to the entertainment center. Alternatively, look for kids’ entertainment centers that include their own storage. This way you won’t need to try and match items and you can be sure that you’ve got everything you need from a single purchase.

Style

Generally, you can buy all kids furniture in a choice of either classical designs or considerably more contemporary ones and this is certainly true of kids entertainment centers. Classic designs like the armoire or a sideboard storage unit can be a great way to keep clutter down. The TV or stereo can even be stored inside the armoire along with all the wires, boxes, and other accessories. Alternatively, contemporary media consoles use bright and bold colors and are often constructed from metal or other materials that you won’t usually find in a classic design but will appeal to kids.

Shopping For Kid’s Furniture

You can buy virtually any type of furniture for a kid’s bedroom or playroom. Desks and chairs, beds and dressers, entertainment centers and storage units are just some of the items and because it’s kids furniture that you’re shopping for it means that you can really let your imagination go wild while you’re designing the layout of the room. Use your child’s favorite colors or characters on some of the items, but do remember that their tastes can change virtually overnight and if the whole room is Disney related or pirate related and your daughter or son changes their mind you may need to redecorate and buy new furniture sooner than you anticipated.

Parenting Tips

The evolution of the baby shopping landscape has gone through key phases of development and diversification, bringing with it benefits to the end consumer in a myriad of different forms.

If you are a parent then you probably know that successful kids’ bedrooms are all about clever furniture! Who wants to be tripping over toys or sorting through boxes full of mess in search of missing puzzle pieces? By providing your children with the right furniture solutions you will helping them keep their rooms tidy and look after and find their toys more easily. I have prepared 10 easy tips to help you choose and create the best furniture solutions for your kids’ bedroom.

1. Discuss the room with your child. Take a pen and paper and sit down with your child and ask them what they like about their room. Ask them to draw a picture of how they would ideally like it to be, this will often give us a different perspective on what their world is like. Ask your child what they would like in their room to make it easier for them to play and pack away. If you listen carefully then there are bound to be some gems to help you understand where improvements can be made. You will understand what is most important to them and how they like to spend their time in their bedroom.

2. See the world through your child’s eyes. If you get down on the floor with your child then you’ll notice the world looks completely different from your child’s perspective! Almost instantaneously you will be able to see that some high shelves are out of their reach, and that they don’t ever look up except when lying in bed. High shelves are often very useful for storing complex toys or toys that should only be played with under supervision. Coat hooks at the right height will make it easy for kids to hang up their school bags, scarves and jackets when they get home form school. Mobiles or installations near the child’s bed will make for interesting viewing as they drift off into dreamland. Kids need a place to draw, build puzzles and play, therefore there should be sufficient storage nearby for all the items used during these activities.

3. Make a list of what you need. The most important thing to do when choosing furniture for your kids’ bedrooms is to make a list of their requirements and then carefully plan what you should pay attention to. Try not to settle for anything less or something that is not quite suitable or safe as it will end up costing you double when it needs to be replaced with the right thing. My mother always used to say buying cheap always ends up costing more.

4. Draw up a floor-plan. Measure the bedroom and draw up a scale model using graph paper. Be sure to indicate the windows and doors. It is much easier to draw up the items of furniture separately and cut them out than it is to keep redrawing the room and rubbing out when you want to make changes. By shuffling the various furniture items around the room you will quickly and easily be able to come up with a well designed layout. This will also stop you from purchasing pieces of furniture which you may not need and don’t have space for. The secret is to make your furniture go farther by purchasing the right item and not by trying to make too many pieces of not quite right furniture fit into a small space together. This will only lead to frustration and more mess. The most important thing to remember when planning the layout of the room is to allocate sufficient floor-space as this is where children spend most of their time.

5. Allocate your budget. It’s no use aiming high when the budget does not allow for it. Be realistic about your needs and be willing to spend what’s necessary but try and find ways to combine budget items with some high end pieces which will last a life time. Think ahead about every item you purchase, how long will it last and can it be converted into being appropriate for the next phase of your child’s development. Cots that convert into toddler beds for example are a clever solution to a piece of furniture that would otherwise only have lasted a year or two.

6. Does it fulfill your needs? Parents are often convinced to make on the spot purchases because they have seen a sample room setup which looks nice. This can often turn out to be a costly mistake because the items are either not the correct size for your particular room or the layout of the room simply does not lend itself to fitting the items purchased in a user friendly manner. The first and foremost aspect of purchasing furniture is that the piece should fulfill your minimum requirements if not more.

7. Is it sturdy? If the budget is set quit low, you may consider purchasing budget ranges. Although this may be suitable for immediate solutions it may not be the wisest decision in the long run. Consider the fact that most children are quite hard-wearing on their furniture, pieces are often used to climb on or turned upside down and climbed inside of. If your new kid’s furniture is not sturdy enough then your budget buy may soon turn into a safety hazard for your child and end up being thrown out much sooner than expected leaving you right back at square one and out of pocket.

8. Does it come pre-assembled? Pre-assembled kids bedroom furniture is often much more sturdy than flat-packed items only because their joints are mostly built using solid cabinetry building methods. Flat-packed furniture is generally cheaper as it costs less to ship and makes it easier to get the new furniture into a room. I have often been witness to the problem where beds and cots simply won’t fit through a standard bedroom door. This is where the benefit of flat-pack furniture is so much greater. It does take a bit of time to put together plus some elbow grease but the satisfaction of having built something for your children soon makes one forget the hard work. It is always useful to note that moving knock down furniture in an assembled state is not advisable, rather partially disassemble to ensure minimal damage to your furniture.

9. Is it safe? Before purchasing furniture, make sure that all the drawers are on proper runners and will not tip the unit over if pulled out all the way. Check that handles are properly attached and will not easily break or be unscrewed by curious hands. Also check for self closing hinges or otherwise make sure that there are door catches to keep the doors on units in place. Make sure there are no sharp corners on the furniture and make sure that backing boards are properly attached. It is very important to make sure that when you install high shelving units that they should be secured to the wall using wall ties or L brackets purchased at your nearest hardware store. Most children will attempt climbing shelves in order to reach the top shelf and this precaution is sure to avoid any harm from coming to your children

10. Does it match your decor style? Of course you say you would only purchase something for your kids’ bedrooms which you actually like, but often times we can be swept up into choosing cute character products or girly colour schemes. A valuable piece of advice is to keep the furniture neutral and simple. It is easier to dress up something plain than it is to get rid of themed cutouts or garish colours that no longer suit your style. Not to mention all the times I have swapped furniture around in my own house, often changing shelves as various house members needs change, thus it is always useful if one adheres to a general sense of furniture style throughout the house.

Parents know that creating a stimulating environment helps kids navigate the path from helplessness to a child capable of entertaining him or herself, exploring the world, and growing in healthy ways, both mentally and physically. Furnishing a child’s room is your unique opportunity to create an environment that provides for such growth. This article offers some ideas to use to create a wonderful kid’s room.

Combine reality and fantasy in choosing kids bedroom furniture. For small kids, it’s a fine line, so make the most of it. Use a combination of small and regular-sized furniture, if possible. Kids love a world sized for them, where they are not constantly reminded of being small. There are wonderful miniature foam sofas and chairs available in colorful, stimulating prints that are not very expensive. A side benefit is their ability to open out for guests, just off the ground, so you will be instantly ready for sleepovers. They are lightweight so they are easy for kids to move around. We found that sleepovers were much easier to handle when we were prepared with the right kind of bedding. Any type of fold-out foam furniture, loungers, or sofa-sleepers will make you instantly prepared.

Rockers are wonderful, but chiefly for Mom and Dad. Beanbag furniture is more comfortable for children and is sized for them. Beanbags conform to childrens’ shapes as they nuzzle in, supporting lower back, shoulders, and arms simultaneously. Beanbag couches and chairs come in wildly stimulating colors, textures, and prints. They can be furry, lime green, wet-look vinyl, tiger print, or shaped like a horse or elephant. They are lightweight, so they are easy for the child to rearrange at will. With both foam and bean furniture, choose models with hidden, cloth-covered zippers that enable the cover to be cleaned or laundered, but that prevent scratches (on kids and floors) as children move them around. Many beanbag chairs have child safety zippers to ensure that everything stays inside.

Kids need floor space in their bedroom! There they will spread out toys, create fantasy worlds, hold tea parties for stuffy animals, construct toy sets, dump their Legos, and arrange and rearrange their world endlessly. Creating floor space can be difficult when the child gets the smallest room in the house, as is often the case. Furniture that changes shape is, then, the smartest investment for parents.

Futon beds are great because they begin as a couch, creating a comfortable space for parent and child(ren) to cuddle around a book. Later they easily unfold into a twin or double bed. Kids futons are relatively inexpensive because, given the kid’s light weight, it is not necessary to invest in an expensive mattress. Kids sleep soundly on the floor, so a cotton mattress will do just fine.

Sitting together on a couch and reading to your child is the best single activity you can do with our children. Reading time is quiet time for focusing, relaxing, relating to each other and to the characters in the book, and for drawing out life’s lessons. Reading to your child stimulates a child’s imagination, develops vocabulary, and prepares little ones for a lifetime of reading on their own. It is much easier to progress from reading to bedtime than from other activities, particularly the TV. (Leave the TV and the computer in grown-up areas where you can closely monitor what your child is watching).

Once finished reading, the futon couch unfolds, transforming into a cozy bed. A child who has just had a loving, warm time with Mom or Dad is much more relaxed and willing to go to sleep than one who has not. By day, the futon folds back into a sofa to expose all that floor space where brave new worlds will be constructed.

As your child ages, bunk beds or futon bunks make use of airspace to preserve that hard-won floor space. We saw bunk beds as climbing structures where kids could practice climbing in a safe environment. The sleepover stage reaches its peak at pre-teen years, when a child learns to bond with people outside the family. Bunk beds are advantageous as older children tire of sleeping on the floor. Futon bunks combine a single bed on top and a double sofa-bed below. The futon bunk bed is the ultimate space-saver for a child’s room as the bed rises above the clutter while the couch is still available as a comfortable reading space and additional sleeper. All of these make for great kids bedroom furniture.

When you get furniture for your kids to eat meals on or do homework, it’s easy to choose the characteristics that matter the most. Just pick a style and color, and you are good to go. With an activity set, however, you need to find an area that your child will be interested enough in to enjoy their use enough to stay focused on their job at hand. These are just a few of the types of activity furniture that you can find for your child.

Musical Workstation. This is just one type of furniture that is available in different styles for different ages. Children love music and they will spend hours seated around this musical workstation while they use the different buttons, switches, and keys to make their own special tunes. Roads, roads, and more roads. Some of these are made for a special type of vehicle and others will work with a variety. Some are more elaborate and provide overpasses and underpasses with different places to drive to. Game Boards. Some of these activity centers have a multi game board top so that children can enjoy checkers, Chinese checkers, backgammon and more. Art Works. They may offer a paper holder at the end of the station and a paper cutter (child safe) on the other end to cut the paper to the size needed. Just roll off the paper you need. Most have storage space for tools to keep the surface area clear where all of the art work can be completed. Building Blocks Surface. These centers have an entire top surface that is made with the same pattern as your favorite blocks. Just start building and you can continue until you have a whole city or start all over every day. Train Station. Boys love to play with trains and they will enjoy them even more when they have the area that is designed just for running their locomotives along the tracks, through tunnels, and all around the town. Sand and Water. These should offer sections that allow you to keep sand and water separate as well as those where you can mix it together. Moving parts increase the fun as do molds for making all types of special shapes from the mixture of the two textures.

Activity centers can be used inside or outside, for one child or a group. Only those made for the youngest kids should be without seats. If you get an activity center that is for older kids that doesn’t come with seats, then you should be sure to get them separately and make sure they are the right size to go with the center.

Keep in mind when shopping for the best activity center for your child that the more that is left to the imagination, the better. Versatility is also important. Kids aren’t as likely to spend a lot of time playing with the same thing in the same way over and over.

Design your kids playroom effortless with these marvelous tips.

The playroom signifies a place of joy, cheerfulness and happiness for any child. Designing your child’s room can be very easy and fun, if you know how to do it. What kids furniture should you choose? What color should the walls be? Where can you find all the stuff you need to create a complete playroom? All these questions may get you stuck for good ideas, but don’t worry. If you follow the tips I’ve outlined here, you’ll be able to create a dazzling place, where your child will love to spend most of the time, having lots of fun.

To start with, you should decide on what furniture you want to have in the playroom. Keep in mind that it is very important to include some kids furniture created especially for children, just in their size. Childrens table and chairs, a rocking chair, a kid stool or a beanbag some small cubby shelves are all great examples for kids furniture, because they are specially manufactured in the size of kids.

When choosing kids furniture, pick only the products that are of superior quality and safe. Don’t purchase cheap items that are likely to break and hurt your little one. Usually, you can find good, quality furniture for kids at reasonable prices, and if you do a little research you may even come about great products that are on sale or at a discount, and in this case you’ll save significantly.

When it comes to the playroom walls, it’s really only a matter of personal taste. You may choose whatever color you like, but ideally would be one that’s not too dark. You want your kid’s playroom to look welcoming. Use lively and bright colors that create a soothing and joyful atmosphere. Alternatively you may use some wall stickers or murals. Murals are terrific for creating the magical atmosphere and look you desire for your kid’s playroom.

Another important thing in a playroom is the toys. After all, what is a playroom without toys? So, when you search for toys, you should opt for the ones that are safe, funny and entertaining. Don’t forget to look at some educational toys that develop your child’s creativity. Those are very good as they expand the kid’s imagination.

Now, where can you find all this great stuff for the playroom. You can always go to your local store and see if you find anything you like. However, for better price offers and more variety, you should check some internet stores. These are great because they offer discounts for quality products and you can shop from the comfort of your own home.
