If someone is making $80000 a year, they SHOULD be able to get insurance for their kids, but what if they don't? Just let them die? And people are using the whole $80000 thing as an excuse to say it's bad idea anyway. The point is, it would also benefit the poorest people. S-CHIP wasn't a bad idea at all. The earmarks added to the bill, and the way they wanted to get the funding was, though. Adding a additional tax to tobacco products hurts the majority of tobacco users, which are poor. This will not make them quit their habit in most cases either, I have seen that people will by cigs. before paying the light bill. But yes S-CHIP, without any strings attached would have been great. A Bill should be Bill, not 600 Bills, that fund god only knows what.
